Douliu Hash #30 – Red Dress Run Pub Crawl Run Report

2011 went out with a BANG in Douliu has some 30-odd hashers showed up to ring in the New Year, many in red dresses, on our 1st annual New Years Eve Red Dress Pub Crawl. Hares SGT and Crampee Buxibum brought everyone on a 5.5km long trail (considering how much beer everyone had, this was probably way too long – we’re surprised everyone made it!) visting 4 different bars along the way until finding ending up back at Roxy’s Bar to ring in the New Year with Dinner for One and and some champagne.

GPS Map of trail

The trail started off with a short 2.5km jaunt to a little Street Cafe on the old street. Along the way, the hares managed to get several runners to backtrack, not once, but TWICE, through the Yunlin Foot Court. First timer Bryan would have managed a catch, except that he missed the trail and was shortcutting (this was a non-shortcuttable trail).

From the street cafe, it was a few hundred meters’ walk to Marks Bar 2, where we all enjoyed ringing out the year with some Yanni playing on the big screen. Hashers ET and Magical Mastiffbatur may have been too much for the locals, who quickly started dispersing at the sight of their thigh-high stockings and swollen bellies. After quaffing some beer, we headed off just outside of Marks Bar 2 to have some hot dogs and quick down downs in a small pavilion.

SGT and CB had a drink and celebrated getting their 3rd hare run patches as well as their Qualified Hare patches. That makes 4 qualified hares on the Douliu Hash (DDT & Paddy McGroin are the other two), so we’re looking forward to some hares to pick up the slack. There were several 1st and 2nd timers among us, but due to time constraints, we made it quick and just made sure they had a drink. There were also 4 third timers, but they did not receive hash names or patches. We will take care of them properly on their next hash.

The award for Best Dressed hasher was a tie between BetelNut Jizz and The Dim Zim, much to the chagrin of Extra Testicle, who hoped to take the prize for himself. BetelNut Jizz had found himself a beautiful maroon Cinderella dress while The Dim Zim managed to find a costume with oversize boobs, which didn’t get handled nearly enough, although they did get motorboated once or twice.

-ANNOUNCEMENTS-
The Douliu Hash has finally gotten INTO THE BLACK! We have some money (ok, very little, but it’s some!) now, so hopefully we can look forward to the hash picking up the tab every now and then. We’re also working on new t-shirts and other ideas.

Since the Douliu Hash is now in the black, the t-shirts are paid off. To celebrate, all the old Hashing shirts are marked down from NT$350 to NT$300. We still have all sizes available (from size 4 Stiff to size Joe Shlomo), so pick them up at the bar!

We are tentatively thinking about a weekend away in Huashan in May or June. Details will be forthcoming, but mark your calendars. We’ll keep it nearby, probably in Huashan, for those of you can’t bear to leave your own beds for the night.

-GENERAL PENALTIES-
I don’t remember most of the general penalties, due to not writing them down, but ET and Magical Mastiffbatur were given a down down for coming all the way from Kaohsiung, at which point ET decided to show us a “magic trick” and pull a hair from his ass. Lassie O’Hare and Thumb Bum shared a down down from SGT, who proclaimed them to be the sexiest Mrs. Santa Claus and the ugliest fucking Christmas Elf ever seen. Several 1st timer South African girls were called out by Joe Shlomo for not wearing red, at which point one of them dropped trou and showed her red underwear. Joe Shlomo had no recourse but to drink for his weak nomination.

-BACK ON TRAIL-
After down downs, we were back on trail for a 300 meter crawl to Relax Bar, a tiny, but cozy, little whiskey bar on the old street. We couldn’t fit everyone inside, but everyone had a drink and Lassie O’Hare showed some of us how to drink a Flaming Drambuie. After drinking probably too much (and still having two bars to go!), we were back on trail for a longer jaunt through the Douliu Train Station and around the traffic circle on our way to Sunflower, where Mr. Miso was playing some Boston. We all enjoyed Corona and Heineken and amused the locals looking for an easy, relaxing Saturday night out. After yet another beer, we stumbled back behind the railway on our way back to Roxy’s, where we all got into some warm clothes, ordered more beer, watched Dinner for One, and rang the New Year in with Hot Glühwein and cold champagne.

Unfortunately, it was a poor start to the New Year for some, who lost their bags, had “accidents” in the wrong places, and generally could have taken things easier. Stop in to Roxy’s for all the sordid details and remember that our next Hash is January 28 (possibly to get pushed back to February 4)!

ON ON and Happy New Year!
